Welcome
to Landfall Learning!
We are happy to have you visit! There is so much
to explore!
As our followers know, in the spring of 2008 we took a "short" sabbatical from cruising. We anchored to spend some time in Bocas del Toro, Panama, and wait out the hurricane season. But while we were there, we fell in love with the place! We decided to buy some property and build a house in the jungle, to have a land base to come home to after our sailing adventures.
But when the house was nearing completion, we realized we would need to replenish the cruising kitty before we could sail on. So, we got a good start on that in 2009-10, with Tracy going off to Afganistan to train troops.
And then in Spring 2010 we moved to Florida...
And then in October 2010 there was Tracy's aortic valve replacement.
And now, exactly one year later, we're dealling with Tracy's brain cancer.
While we plan to get back to Panama and to sailing one of these days, for now, we will continue to use this website to update friends and family on our on-going adventures near and far, using the Ship's Log pages.

Landfall Learning is a not-for-profit organization providing educational content in a non-traditional format. Our target audience is middle school students in underperforming and underfunded schools. While we are exploring the globe on our 36 foot sailboat, students in classrooms following our lesson materials become our virtual crew. It is our goal that by applying traditional school subject materials to the planning and execution of our travels, students become more confident in their ability to succeed in any endeavor they choose to pursue in life.
In addition to providing standard subject matter content, our goal is to encourage good global citizenship and a deeper understanding of current conservation challenges, cultural differences and the wise use of resources.
Participation in Landfall Learning's programs is open to students and classrooms without regard to gender, race, color, nationality, country of origin, religious belief or ethnic background.
